Cybersecurity Awareness Among College Students: A Conceptual and Descriptive Study

Abstract

The exponential growth of digital technologies has significantly increased the exposure of individuals to cyber risks, making cybersecurity awareness a critical area of concern. College students, as active participants in the digital ecosystem, are particularly vulnerable to cyber threats due to their extensive use of online platforms for academic, social, and financial activities. This study presents a conceptual and descriptive analysis of cybersecurity awareness among college students. It examines the level of awareness, common behavioural patterns, and the challenges associated with safe digital practices. Drawing upon existing literature and theoretical perspectives, the study highlights the gap between awareness and actual cybersecurity behaviour. The paper further emphasises the role of educational institutions in fostering cybersecurity literacy. The findings suggest that structured educational interventions and policy-level initiatives are essential to enhance cybersecurity awareness among students.
